Unlocking the Mysteries of Daniel’s Prophecies

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not
come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed,
the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is
called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of
God, showing himself that he is God.

Introduction-– How the sealed portion of the prophecy of Daniel might have been fulfilled in history, had the Jews remained loyal to their covenant privileges and responsibilities, is beyond our ken.

Nor is it important for us to know. With the transition from literal Israel to the Christian church, however, the latter fell heir to the covenant promises, privileges, and responsibilities that formerly belonged to the literal descendants of Abraham.

The prophecies of Daniel envisioned the coming of a great tyrant who would oppress God’s people, enforce error and apostasy as his official policy, and ruthlessly persecute those who refused to comply. (In A.D. 70 Roman legions destroyed Jerusalem and the temple, and slew countless thousands of Jews.( And it is the Same Thing Today)

The prophecies of Daniel 7 and 8 envision his oppression of both. Satanic opposition to truth has always taken two forms—the dissemination of error, and the persecution of those who reject it.

Christ and the New Testament writers present a preview of how these aspects of Daniel’s prophecy were yet to work out in history, between the first and second advents of Christ, as Satan went forth in anger to make war on those who should choose to remain loyal to God. Christ and the apostles often use the very words, expressions, or ideas of Daniel as they draw this picture of coming events. Christ specifically declared His delineation of the future to be an outline of how Daniel’s prophecy is to be fulfilled, with His followers as heirs to the covenant promises, privileges, and responsibilities.

Warnings of Apostasy and Persecution

What warning against future apostasy and persecution did Christ give His ,disciples?

Matthew 24:4, 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

23-26 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate Christ. The church has long professed to look to the Saviour’s advent as the consummation of her hopes.

Now the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. In different parts of the earth, Satan will manifest himself among men as a majestic being of dazzling brightness, resembling the description of the Son of God given by John in the Revelation…. The shout of triumph rings out upon the air, “Christ has come! Christ has come!” The people prostrate themselves in adoration before him…. In gentle, compassionate tones he presents some of the same gracious, heavenly truths which the Saviour uttered; he heals the diseases of the people, and then, in his assumed character of Christ, he claims to have changed the Sabbath to Sunday, and commands all to hallow the day which he has blessed….

Only those who have been diligent students of the Scriptures, and who have received the love of the truth, will be shielded from the powerful delusion that takes the world captive.The Great Controversy, 624, 625.

The Saviour has warned His people and has clearly foretold the manner of His second coming. “There shall arise false Christs…. Wherefore if they shall say unto you. Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:24-27.

This coming, there is no possibility of counterfeiting. It will be universally known—witnessed by the whole world….
Are the people of God now so firmly established upon His Word that they would not yield to the evidence of their senses? Would they, in such a crisis, cling to the Bible, and the Bible only? The Great Controversy, 625.

Compare Danel 11:31-35 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.
34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries.
35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.

NOTE-The Desire of Ages,pp.628–Many false messiahs will appear, claiming to work miracles, and declaring that the time of the deliverance of the Jewish nation has come. These will mislead many. Christ’s words were fulfilled. Between His death and• the siege of Jerusalem many false messiahs appeared.

But this warning was given also to those who live in this age of the world. The same deceptions practiced prior to the destruction of Jerusalem have been practiced through the ages, and will be practiced again.

How did Paul speak of the coming apostasy?

2Thessalonians 2:3-12 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

When the early church became corrupted by departing from the simplicity of the gospel and accepting heathen rites and customs, she lost the Spirit and power of God; and in order to control the consciences of the people, she sought the support of the secular power. The result was the papacy, a church that controlled the power of the state and employed it to further her own ends, especially for the punishment of “heresy.”
Whenever the church has obtained secular power, she has employed it to punish dissent from her doctrines. Protestant churches that have followed in the steps of Rome by forming alliance with worldly powers have manifested a similar desire to restrict liberty of conscience.

An example of this is given in the long-continued persecution of dissenters by the Church of England. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, thousands of nonconformist ministers were forced to flee from their churches, and many, both of pastors and people, were subjected to fine, imprisonment, torture, and martyrdom.

It was apostasy that led the early church to seek the aid of the civil government, and this prepared the way for the development of the papacy—the beast. Said Paul: “There” shall “come a falling away …, and that man of sin be revealed.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3. So apostasy in the church will prepare the way for the image to the beast.=The Great Controversy, 443, 444.
Satan will work with all power and “with all deceivableness of unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10. His working is plainly revealed by the rapidly increasing darkness, the multitudinous errors, heresies, and delusions of these last days.

Not only is Satan leading the world captive, but his deceptions are leavening the professed churches of our Lord Jesus Christ. The great apostasy will develop into darkness deep as midnight. To God’s people it will be a night of trial, a night of weeping, a night of persecution for the truth’s sake. But out of that night of darkness God’s light will shine. Prophets and Kings, 717.

NOTE–The Acts of Apostles,pp.395-The dangers that would assail the church at Ephesus were revealed to the apostle. “I know this,” he said, “that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Paul trembled for the church as, looking into the future, he saw the attacks which she must suffer from both external and internal foes. With solemn earnestness he bade his brethren guard vigilantly their sacred trusts.

1 Timothy 4: 1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

NOTE-The Great Controversy,pp.443 (1888)–It was apostasy that led the early church to seek the aid of the civil government, and this prepared the way for the development of the papacy,—the beast.

Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast (Political Power) rise up out of the sea, (Revelation 17:15 And he saith unto me, “The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, “are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.) having seven heads (Same as Revelation 17) and ten horns,

(Ten horns Revelation 17:12 ten kings that unite with BEAST to make war on lamb) and upon his horns ten crowns, (Crowns denotes Kings) and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. (Blasphemy is to claim the power to forgive sins.)

Revelation 13:2 – And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as of a lion: (Daniel 7 the lion, bear, and leopard, are composites of the same animals in Daniel 7) and the dragon (Satan working through Roman authorities, in Revelation 12:4 the dragon stood before the woman to devour the child Jesus.) gave him his power, (Rome gave the leopard beast power. When Constantine, the Emperor of Rome moved to Constantinople he gave the Bishop of Rome power) and his seat, (Rome as capital for the Bishops of Rome) and great authority. (Papal Rome ruled Europe from 538-1798)

NOTE-Amazing Discoveries Revelation 13 Commentary–3:1 This beast is similar to the dragon from Revelation 12. They both have “seven heads and ten horns.” Revelation 17:10 shows us that the seven heads are seven consecutive world powers- earthly governments Satan uses to persecute God’s faithful church.

The dragon is Satan working through pagan religions, the occult and spiritualism, while the beast symbolizes Satan working in disguise, using the corrupted Christian church to do his work. In verse 5 we see that the beast continues “forty and two months” (the 1,260 year period of Papal dominance).

In verse 7 it makes “war with the saints,” persecuting Christ’s true followers who struggled to maintain the truth of God’s Word. This beast is none other than the Papal church system. It arose as predicted among the populated nations of Europe, symbolized by “the sea” and the “ten horns.” Revelation 17:15.

13:2 This beast has the characteristics of a leopard, a bear and a lion, the same beast powers mentioned in Daniel 7—the leopard of Greece, the bear for Medo-Persia and the lion for Babylon. This beast represents the Papacy, the same religious-political power portrayed by the little horn of Daniel 7.

The dragon gives this beast “his power, and his seats, and great authority.” Pagan Rome gave all these things to Papal Rome, and apostates Christianity replaced paganism as the means through which Satan persecuted God’s faithful people for hundreds of years.

Revelation 13:5-7 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Daniel 13 Commentary–13:5-7 The characteristics of this beast parallel very closely the ones in Daniel 7:20-21, 25 and 8:10-12.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Daniel 7:FROM-DANIEL 7:20-25 “The ten horns” of the beasts, like the feet of iron mixed with clay in Daniel 2, predicted that the Roman Empire would fragment into ten parts. Barbarian tribes invaded the empire’s territory from the north and east and eventually became the nations of modern Europe

7:26-28 The climax of this prophecy is God’s final judgment. The beast and the little horn power are judged and their kingdom is taken away; at the same time the verdict is made in favor of the saints and dominion is given to them.

These same events were portrayed in Daniel 2 when the stone crushed the statue of power and filled the whole earth. God will set up His everlasting kingdom full of love, joy and peace; there will be no sickness or death. Revelation 21:3-4

NEXT-NOTE:FROM DANIEL 8–8:9-12- We know from Daniel 2 and 7 and from history that the power which followed Greece was Rome. In chapters 2 and 7 it was shown in two phases: Pagan Rome and Divided Rome. We saw in Chapter 7 that the religious power of Papal Rome rose to dominate the divided empire.

This vision represents power. The physical actions of Pagan Rome against God’s people are symbolic of Papal persecution of God’s people and their true worship.

Compare Daniel 7:4-8, 11, 20, 25. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Daniel 7Commentary–7:4 Babylon is fitly represented by a “lion.” See Jeremiah 4:7; 50:17, 43-44. Just as gold is supreme among the metals so the “lion” is king among beasts and the “eagle” is king of the birds. Babylon’s rise from a basal state of Assyria to ruler of the known world was breathtakingly swift. In the 21 years after Babylon gained its independence from Assyria, it had conquered the surrounding nations, and become the most powerful empire in the region; thus the “eagle’s wings” portray speed. See Habakkuk 1:6-8.

Later, this nation ceased to expand and conquer, represented by the wings being “plucked” off. After the death of Nebuchadnezzar the succeeding kings of Babylon chose to ignore God’s low and mock him. See note on Daniel 5:22. Then Babylon lost its lion-like nobility. It was given a “man’s heart” and made to stand upon its “feet as a man.”

Daniel 7:1,2. Most prophetic symbols are used consistently throughout the Scriptures. In Revelation 17:15 The WATERS is defined as meaning “peoples and nations”, and such a meaning fits the context of Daniel’s description here quite well. The “winds” upon the sea represents the strife that usually accompanies the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms.

Daniel 7:4 The lion fitly symbolized Babylon, and in fact, figures of this beast often pictured with eagle’s wings, appear prominently on walls and monuments of excavated Babylonian ruins.

The lion like kingdom did lose its aggressiveness and become weak in its later years, as the picture of the loss of wings and change of character points out.

Daniel 7:4 – he first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

The Lion.–In the vision of Daniel 7, the first beast seen by the prophet was a lion. For the use of the lion as a symbol, read Jeremiah 4: 7; 50: 17, 43, 44. The lion as first seen in the vision before us had eagle’s wings. The symbolic use of wings is impressively described in Habakkuk 1: 6-8, where it is said that the Chaldeans should “fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.”

Daniel 7:17 – These four beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. (The first kingdom being Babylon)

8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

(Isaiah 28:7 false doctrine is wine, Unholy alliance’s made with Papal Rome and leader’s of the earth.)

Revelation 17:3 – So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet (Isaiah 1:18 scarlet color represents sin) colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, (claim power to forgive sin, and represents claim to be Gods representative on earth) having seven heads (7 mountains and 7 kings) and ten horns. (10 Kings.)

Rule’s of interpetation from Daniel 7, the heads on the leopard repesented the leadership of Greece. Thus here we have a Papal Beast with 7 heads representing Papal leadership. Revelation 17 explain’s who these 7 are.

Revelation 17:4 – And the woman (Mother church-Roman Catholic church system) was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, (scarlet represents sin, official colors of Roman Catholic church) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

Revelation 17:5 – And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Mother church Roman Catholic Church system is the mother or source of the Churches separated from Roman Catholicism that still have the Mothers false doctrines, Both Protestants and Catholic’s in Apostasy.)

Revelation 17:6 – And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, (Persecution of Gods people) and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. (John see’s persecution during the Dark age’s of God’s people. Papal power set up by decree in 538 A.D. and continued until Napoleon decreed it dead in 1798 as his general Berthier captured Pius VI in Rome and ending Papal rule

Next—Revelation 17:18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

NOTE--Revelation 17:18 – And the woman (Catholism) which thou sawest is that city, (Papal church) which reigneth over the kings of the earth. (10 kings gave their power to the Papal power)

19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Compare Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

Note—John also presents the villain of the prophecies of Daniel under the symbol of mystical Babylon, the great harlot of prophecy. Like her counterpart in the book of Daniel, mystical Babylon represents consummate apostasy, of which harlotry is the usual Biblical symbol. For examples, see Ezekiel 16 and 23. Babylon the Great attempts to coerce the people of earth into drinking the wine of her apostasy, and sets out to slay all who refuse to do so. The role assigned to mystical Babylon in the Revelation is identical with that attributed to the great tyrant in Daniel’s prophecy.

The Tyrant Identified 5.

To what power in history does the Bible point as the historical counterpart of the great antichrist?

ANSWER.-A summary of the information given by Daniel, Christ, Paul, and John provides the following composite picture by which to identify the antichrist of Bible prophecy: A. It would rise to power during the decline and fall of the ancient Roman Empire, eliminating three troublesome competitors in the process, and dominate the political and religious scene in western Europe for approximately 1260 years.

Supernatural signs in the heavens would herald the close of its long period of supremacy. It would then suffer what appeared to be a mortal wound, but would recover, regain its former power, and flourish briefly prior to the second advent of Christ.

This religiopolitical organization would come into being as the result of a great apostasy within the Christian church, and would usurp the prerogatives and authority of Christ over the church. It would defy God, and for practical purposes, deify itself.

Its policy and course of action would constitute rebellion against the Most High. It would arrogate to itself the right to alter, and even abolish, the divine precepts and sacred observances, and would substitute its own authority for that of the Holy Scriptures. It would suppress the knowledge and practice of the way of salvation in Christ as set forth in the Bible, and demand compliance with its own counterfeit teachings and system of salvation.

C. This sinister power would impose its authority over the peoples and nations of the civilized world, and wage a determined and ruthless war of extermination against all who chose to remain loyal to God. The result would be ‘a long era of unprecedented suffering and hardship for God’s people. The precise fulfillment by the papacy of every specification marked out by the inspired writers of the Bible conclusively identifies it as the power foretold. As successor to the Roman Empire, the Roman Church took over its name, its language, its territory, its capital, its pattern of administrative organization, its authority, and its legal status.

Like the fabled phoenix, the Roman Church rose from the ashes of the Roman Empire, and the empire lived on, rein carnate, in the church. It would be difficult to imagine a more exact correspondence between the specifications of Bible prophecy and their fulfillment in history. It should be noted that when Roman Catholics speak of “the Church,” they refer to the hierarchial organization, and not to those who profess the Catholic faith.

We here use the term “Church” in the Roman Catholic sense, of the organization as an organization, and not of the millions of Catholics who are entirely sincere in their beliefs and devoted in their practice of religion, either collectively or as individuals. The Spirit of Christ leaves no room whatever for prejudice or bigotry of any kind, or in any degree. We come to a study of this aspect of Bible prophecy with charity for all and malice toward none.

How has papal policy toward God’s people down through the centuries fulfilled the predictions of Daniel and John?

ANSWER.—Throughout the history of Western civilization, the Church of Rome has distinguished herself by a spirit of intolerance toward all who dissent from her authority. It is a simple fact of history that she has been responsible for the torture and death of more Christians than all the pagan powers of earth—not as an occasional, temperamental outburst, but as the result of a fixed policy to eradicate dissent whenever and wherever possible, by whatever means promised to be most effective.

To what unscriptural papal dogmas did Daniel and John allude?

ANSWER.—The difference between the teachings of the inspired Bible writers and those of the Roman Church with respect to Christ’s infinite sacrifice on Calvary, His continuing priestly ministry in heaven, and the means by which we become recipients of divine grace is so profound and far reaching as to render the two systems mutually exclusive. For example, the Bible teaches that Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary was all-sufficient to atone for sins; according to Catholic theology, that sacrifice must be repeated thousands of times every day around the world, in what Catholic theologians call the sacrifice of the mass. The [ 311 Bible teaches that, since His ascension, Christ has been ministering in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest, and that we are to come directly to Him the Roman Church has interposed a human priesthood that bars men from direct access to Christ. The Bible presents Christ as our only mediator before God, and directs us to confess our sins directly to Him ; the Roman Church denies men the privilege of confessing their sins directly to Christ, and requires instead that sins be confessed to human priests.

In place of our one Intercessor and Mediator before God, the Roman Church has substituted the Virgin Mary and attributed to her honor hardly distinguishable from that which the Bible reserves to Christ alone, and, with her, a host of patron saints.

Many unscriptural teachings and practices might be mentioned: such as the doctrine of purgatory, prayers for those supposed to be suffering torment there, the canonization and veneration of saints, the rosary, penance, indulgences, and the seven so-called sacraments. Sufficient evidence has been cited to demonstrate that the Church of Rome has wandered far indeed from the pure gospel originally proclaimed by Christ and the apostles.

This wholesale departure from their teachings has properly been called “the great apostasy.” By depreciating Christ’s sacrifice and priestly ministry, and then substituting another system of its own devising, the Church of Rome has, in effect, profaned the heavenly sanctuary of which the inspired writer of the book of Hebrews speaks, and blasphemed God’s dwelling as John foretold.

She has so effectively deprived millions of people of a knowledge of these fundamental Bible truths and of the benefit of their saving power, that for them the plan devised in heaven has, for practical purposes, ceased to exist.

The Last Great Conflict

How does John describe the last great struggle between good and evil?

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus

It has been shown that the United States is the power represented by the beast with lamblike horns, and that this prophecy will be fulfilled when the United States shall enforce Sunday observance, which Rome claims as the special acknowledgment of her supremacy. But in this homage to the papacy the United States will not be alone.

the influence of Rome in the countries that once acknowledged her dominion is still far from being destroyed.

And prophecy foretells a restoration of her power. “I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.” Verse 3.The infliction of the deadly wound points to the downfall of the papacy in 1798. After this, says the prophet, “his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.” Paul states plainly that the “man of sin” will continue until the second advent.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-8. To the very close of time he will carry forward the work of deception. And the revelator declares, also referring to the papacy: “All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life.” Revelation 13:8. In both the Old and the New World, the papacy will receive homage in the honor paid to the Sunday institution, that rests solely upon the authority of the Roman Church.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Revelation 16 Commentary 16:12-16– The 6^th Plague—The Euphrates River is Dried Up: “The dragon” is Satan in the guise of modern spiritualism, pagan religions, and occult and the new age movement. Revelation 12:3-6. “The beast” is the Roman Catholic Church System revived and healed of its Protestant churches in the United States who influenced the government to make religious laws. Revelation 13:11-18. These three make up “the great city,” “Babylon,” which fights against God’s holy city and people.

These three, “The dragon,” “the beast,” and “the false prophet” send out their demonic messengers and work their miracles to deceive the nations and gather them to the battle of “Armageddon.” Revelation 12:17. They intend to carry out the death decree and destroy God’s people who have refused to worship the beast or his image—those who will not desecrate the Sabbath of the fourth commandment and refuse to comply with the Sunday law. The “Euphrates” river ran through the ancient city of Babylon; it was quite literally the life of the city. When the armies of Cyrus the Persian, under his General Darius, overthrew Babylon, they did so by digging channels to divert the water. The river “dried up” enough to allow them to march into the city along the riverbed and successfully attack through the inner river gates. They drying up of the Euphrates symbolizes a drying up of support for Babylon the Great.

When things seem the darkest for God’s remnant people and they are surrounded by the armies of the unholy trinity of beast, dragon and false prophet, they hear the voice of Jesus who is approaching with the host of heaven proclaiming to the world that these are His people. The attackers realize that they have been deceived, that they are eternally lost. They are filled with terror and withdraw their support from Babylon and turn on her in rage. Revelation 17:16. This fulfills the prophecy that the “Euphrates” will be “dried up.”

Soon after he conquered Babylon, Cyrus freed the Israelites from captivity and allowed them to return to their homes. Cyrus, the king from the east, became a symbol of Christ the deliverer. God through the prophet Isaiah calls him His “shepherd” and His “anointed.” Isaiah 44:24-45:1. The “kings of the east” are Jesus, the King of Kings, and the mighty host who accompany Him in battle.

17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Revelation 17 Commentary–17:7-11 The beast has “seven heads and ten horns.” The seven heads are said to be “seven mountains on which the woman sitteth” (vs. 9) and “seven kings” (vs.10).

These heads are the same as the ones on the dragon of Revelation 12 and the beast of Revelation 13. They represent the great world empires which Satan uses to persecute God’s people. Five of these powers which have been noted in the books of Daniel and Revelation are Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Pagan Rome and Papal Rome. At the end of time, the power of Papal Rome is greater than ever, her deadly wound is healed and she again strongly persecutes God’s people as in former years. The revived Roman Catholic Church unites with apostate Protestants and spiritists to form a religious-political entity that is supported by the governments of the world.

The historic center of Rome was built on seven hills and has been known since ancient times as the “City of Seven Hills.” The phrase “seven mountains on which the woman sitteth” also serves to link the “woman” with the city of Rome establishing her once again as the Roman Catholic Church.

17:12-18 The “ten horns” are the nations of Europe and all the earth that rally under the banner of Rome. Daniel 7:7, 24; Revelation 16:14. They are also called “The waters…where the whore sitteth” (vs. 15) and “They that dwell on the earth…whose names were not written in the book of life.” See Revelation 13:8.

These nations give the end-time church-state alliance, which is Babylon the great, all of their strength to make war against Jesus, the Lamb, and His people who keep God’s commandments and have the faith of Jesus.

The nations of the world will support Babylon’s Sunday law. They will enforce her decree, and those who disobey will not be allowed to buy or sell. Ultimately, they support legislation calling for the death of God’s people. Revelation 12:17; 13:11-18; 14:12. However, when Jesus delivers His faithful followers (Revelation 19:11-20) the multitudes who have supported the great whore finally realize that they have been deceived and that they are eternally lost. Enraged, they will turn upon their religious leaders, vs. 16. Thus, by God’s will, the punishment of the harlot of Babylon is carried out in part by her own allies.

NOTE-MEANING OF REVELATION 17:11-

NOTE—Understanding Daniel and Revelation–ONE IS NOT YET COME: this, as we will see, is what we are now hearing a lot about in our word; the ‘New World Order’. This is actually the U.N. activated and backed up by the might of the USA. When it comes into power it will be using as its ‘moral authority’ the.

RESURRECTED PAPAL ROMAN HEAD: “And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.” Revelation 17:11

We also see that when the Roman power’s deadly wound is healed, it can once again persecute heretics .It was one of the seven, but now here it comes again. We are told it shall go into perdition; in other words it will continue until the end of all things and be destroyed by the plagues and the brightness of Jesus’ coming.

NOTE AND ANSWER–Continuing our history lesson we need to establish the names of the seven consecutive universal empires. By doing this we will see more clearly how the rebellion that was begun in Heaven was transferred and developed through the nations of the earth until it became fully established during the time of the Roman Empire.

This wild beast belongs to no one age, but it is a power which has risen in every age; the seven heads represent the successive culminations of this world power. In various empires this world power showed itself: in Egypt, the house of bondage; in Assyria, that exalted herself against God; in Babylon, the hammer of the whole earth; in Persia; in Greece; and in succession these kingdoms fell, only to be succeeded by another, “Rome.”

Five are fallen, the one referred to as being “is,” was ROME, and the seventh head must be rather an aggregation of nations than a single empire. However, this confederacy of nations will gather together under one head, the seventh head, the Papacy.

Few would realize that the New World Order is a child of the Papacy. As we see the nations of the earth uniting under the auspices of the United Nations, we are witnessing the restoration of her power.

It is not yet evident the part that the religious element is playing, but we need to understand the progress of events in the marshalling of the nations for the final conflict, for they will unite under the one head, the Papacy, the seventh head. When we see this happen we can be sure that time will continue only for a short period.

There will be a universal bond of union, one great harmony, a confederacy of evil. Thus is manifested the same arbitrary, oppressive power against religious liberty and freedom to worship God according to the dictates of conscience, as was manifested by the Papacy, when in the past it persecuted those who dared to refuse to conform with the religious rites and ceremonies of Romanism.

As the prophecy indicates, the woman (the church, Romanism in the old world, Protestantism in the new) is sitting on the beast (the governments of the world).

As the beast under consideration is only ever depicted as having seven heads, it is obvious that the reference to the eighth head is symbolic. The number eight is symbolic of the resurrection or of new life, thus symbolizing the restoration of Rome to her former glory.

Revelation 19:11-21 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Revelation 19 Commentary–19:11-16 The Feast of the Birds, Armageddon: Next, John sees a vision of Christ’s Second Coming that deals with the wicked. Christ appears on “a white horse” as the Conquering King. He comes with the “armies” of “Heaven” to “judge and make war.” His eyes seem to pierce to the heart of each person, for He knows every thought and word and action of their lives. His vesture has on it the “blood” of the victory He won at Calvary; that accomplishment ensured His triumph now in the battle of Armageddon.

The “sharp sword” and “rod of iron” signify victory over His enemies. Jesus comes to smite the wicked nations, who have waged war against Him, His saints and His church. He has laid aside his priestly garments and put on “crowns” and kingly attire; He is coming as “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Unlocking the Mysteries of Daniel’s Prophecies

Introduction-– How the sealed portion of the prophecy of Daniel might have been fulfilled in history, had the Jews remained loyal to their covenant privileges and responsibilities, is beyond our ken.

Nor is it important for us to know. With the transition from literal Israel to the Christian church, however, the latter fell heir to the covenant promises, privileges, and responsibilities that formerly belonged to the literal descendants of Abraham.

The prophecies of Daniel 7 and 8 envision his oppression of both. Satanic opposition to truth has always taken two forms—the dissemination of error, and the persecution of those who reject it.

Warnings of Apostasy and Persecution

What warning against future apostasy and persecution did Christ give His ,disciples?

Matthew 24:4, 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Only those who have been diligent students of the Scriptures, and who have received the love of the truth, will be shielded from the powerful delusion that takes the world captive.The Great Controversy, 624, 625.

The Saviour has warned His people and has clearly foretold the manner of His second coming. “There shall arise false Christs…. Wherefore if they shall say unto you. Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:24-27.

But this warning was given also to those who live in this age of the world. The same deceptions practiced prior to the destruction of Jerusalem have been practiced through the ages, and will be practiced again.

How did Paul speak of the coming apostasy?

Revelation 13:6 – And he (Papal church and state) opened his mouth in blasphemy agaist God, to blaspheme his name, (Pope’s title Vicar of Son of God) and his tabernacle, (Pope’s replace Gods temple in heaven including power to forgive sins) and them that dwell in heaven.

Revelation 13:7 – And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, (Persecution during 1260 years of Papal domination) and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. Dark ages

NOTE–Amazing Discoveries Daniel 13 Commentary–13:5-7 The characteristics of this beast parallel very closely the ones in Daniel 7:20-21, 25 and 8:10-12.

7:26-28 The climax of this prophecy is God’s final judgment. The beast and the little horn power are judged and their kingdom is taken away; at the same time the verdict is made in favor of the saints and dominion is given to them.

These same events were portrayed in Daniel 2 when the stone crushed the statue of power and filled the whole earth. God will set up His everlasting kingdom full of love, joy and peace; there will be no sickness or death. Revelation 21:3-4

NEXT-NOTE:FROM DANIEL 8–8:9-12- We know from Daniel 2 and 7 and from history that the power which followed Greece was Rome. In chapters 2 and 7 it was shown in two phases: Pagan Rome and Divided Rome. We saw in Chapter 7 that the religious power of Papal Rome rose to dominate the divided empire.

This vision represents power. The physical actions of Pagan Rome against God’s people are symbolic of Papal persecution of God’s people and their true worship.

The lion like kingdom did lose its aggressiveness and become weak in its later years, as the picture of the loss of wings and change of character points out.

Rule’s of interpetation from Daniel 7, the heads on the leopard repesented the leadership of Greece. Thus here we have a Papal Beast with 7 heads representing Papal leadership. Revelation 17 explain’s who these 7 are.

To what power in history does the Bible point as the historical counterpart of the great antichrist?

Supernatural signs in the heavens would herald the close of its long period of supremacy. It would then suffer what appeared to be a mortal wound, but would recover, regain its former power, and flourish briefly prior to the second advent of Christ.

This religiopolitical organization would come into being as the result of a great apostasy within the Christian church, and would usurp the prerogatives and authority of Christ over the church. It would defy God, and for practical purposes, deify itself.

How has papal policy toward God’s people down through the centuries fulfilled the predictions of Daniel and John?

To what unscriptural papal dogmas did Daniel and John allude?

In place of our one Intercessor and Mediator before God, the Roman Church has substituted the Virgin Mary and attributed to her honor hardly distinguishable from that which the Bible reserves to Christ alone, and, with her, a host of patron saints.

She has so effectively deprived millions of people of a knowledge of these fundamental Bible truths and of the benefit of their saving power, that for them the plan devised in heaven has, for practical purposes, ceased to exist.

The Last Great Conflict

How does John describe the last great struggle between good and evil?

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus
